Lady Pilots sink SAGU in soccer

Murders holds first-place LSUS to three goals

SHREVEPORT, Louisiana -- Yielding an early goal in both halves was too much to overcome for the rebuilding women’s soccer team at Southwestern Assemblies of God University on Saturday, a 4-0 defeat at the hands of LSU-Shreveport.

The Lady Lions had an improved defensive effort, holding the highest scoring team in the Red River Athletic Conference to three goals and only 12 shots on goal. Kendall Murders (Bolivar, Mo / Bolivar HS) stepped between the pipes for injured starter, Haley Shingleton (Pasadena, Tx / Deer Park HS), and was more than admirable.

The 5’5 senior made eight saves during her third appearance as goalie this fall. Murders (pictured above as the Lady Lions goalie) is a regular as a defender for the Purple Pride.

An “own goal” by SAGU on an LSUS cornerkick in the 47th minute gave the Lady Pilots a 3-0 margin. Their final goal wasn’t scored until the 84th minute.

The loss, the team’s fifth straight, dropped Southwestern to 2-7 overall and 0-2 in the RRAC. Louisiana State University at Shreveport, remains in the catbird seat in the league at 5-2 and 2-0. The Lady Pilots outshot SAGU, 22-3, and 12-1 in shots on the goal.

Ashley Nerat (Menomonee Falls, Wi / Menomonee Falls HS) had the lone scoring bid for SAGU. Noelle Pugliese (Lee’s Summit, Mo / Lee’s Summit North HS) and Jessica Powell (Terrell, Tx / Terrell HS) also fired shots.

On Deck: Thursday Home Game

The Lady Lions return to the pitch next week when they host to Bacone College on Thursday, September 29. The Lady Warriors are 5-4 overall and 1-1 in the RRAC. The game is scheduled for a 1:00pm start.
