Madison McClure signs to play for Lady Lions

Standout from Mustang, Oklahoma commits to Purple Pride

WAXAHACHIE, Texas  --  The Southwestern Assemblies of God University volleyball team has announced the signing of Madison McClure, a power hitter from Mustang, Oklahoma.

Enrolling at SAGU and playing for the Lady Lions is a dream come true for McClure.

Like a quote from Vincent van Gogh: “I dream my painting and I paint my dream,” McClure put actions behind her desires.

“I have been playing school and club volleyball since the 7th grade,” she said. “My goal since 7th grade was to attend SAGU and play volleyball.”

The 5-foot-11 opposite hitter was a three-year starter at class 6A Mustang High School, the fifth largest in the state.

Her accomplishments on the court were many.

During her senior season she was her team’s Offensive Player of the Year for pounding 323 kills.

Under first year Head Coach Taryn Steele (Southern Nazarene University), the Broncos thundered to a 20-11 season before losing in the regional finals to No. 1 Edmond Santa Fe.

As a sophomore she was named the Broncos’ Player of the Year, and then followed that with another award in her junior campaign when she fired 79 aces.

She was named to an All-Tournament Team four times during her prep career.

McClure was chosen the varsity team captain her last two years in Mustang (pop. 17,395), which is 18 miles southwest of Oklahoma City.

Displaying similar leadership, she was also team captain for her club teams; the OK Storm (Coach Sam Lindsey), OKC Juniors (Coach Kastan Maness), and the OK Charge (Coach Kastan Maness) during each of the past four seasons.

In the classroom McClure’s 3.95 grade point average earned her inclusion in the Honor Roll, the National Honor Society as well as Academic All-State.

She was on the Student Council as well as an officer in Spanish Club.

Madison has been very active at The Bridge, an Assembly of God church (Mustang, Ok), where she has served on the student leadership team.

Her involvements have included 13 missions outreaches to Ireland, the Cayman Islands and Mexico as well as stateside projects in Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma.

In her church’s district (state), McClure competed at the Oklahoma Fine Arts Festival. She won first place in Large Drama Ensemble (2012 and 2013) as well as taking first in the Small Drama Ensemble (2012) category.

At SAGU her plans include to pursue a degree in Education with a minor in Biblical Studies. Her ultimate goal is to become a missionary.

Madison’s family is comprised of her parents, Rob and Sherri. Her dad is an Assistant Pastor at The Bridge. He has also a former District Youth Director (DYD) for the Oklahoma District.
