SAGU returns home for matches on Friday, Saturday

SHAWNEE, Oklahoma  --  The Southwestern Assemblies of God University volleyball team will face a stern challenge tonight when they take on No. 12 ranked Oklahoma Baptist University.

The Lady Lions, 9-4 overall and 3-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference, meet the Bison at 7:00pm (CST). OBU is 12-4 in all games and 2-0 in the SAC.

They have lost four matches, the first three to nationally ranked teams, and the fourth to College of the Ozarks (11-10), whom SAGU has defeated. The green-clad Bison are rebuilding this fall.

It will be played in the Noble Complex, which houses the Mabee Arena, on campus. It seats 2,400.

The best-of-five match is available for fans to watch on livestream video and/or a LiveStats webcast. Go to the following address and click on the icon next to the game.

Tonight’s winner will remain in first place in the conference. Just three teams are unbeaten in league action; SAGU, OBU and #22 Wayland Baptist University (15-2, 2-0 in SAC).

Wayland visits SAGU on Saturday, October 5 in a match aired by SAGU Sports Live.

Last year the Bison won the SAC before advancing to the NAIA quarterfinals in the national tournament. They lost to No. 2 ranked UT-Brownsville in four games; 27-29, 25-27, 25-14 and 18-25. OBU finished at 35-6.

A complete review of tonight match will be posted on-line, including statistics and possibly photos.

SAGU returns home to play St. Thomas on Friday night at 7:00pm and on Saturday, when they meet John Brown University at 1:00pm.

The latter will be broadcast in HD on the SAGU Sports Network.
