Lady Lions have four matches in Sherman
Austin College Classic known as season tune-up
WAXAHACHIE, Texas -- The Southwestern Assemblies of God University women's volleyball team will play four opponents over the next two days at the Austin College Classic. The annual event will take place 90 miles away in Sherman, just shy of the Texas-Oklahoma border.
The Lady Lions, 18-17 last season, have high hopes this year. They return all but one player from 2012, including three First Team All-Conference players in Taylor Calverley (Mansfield, Tx / Grace Prep), Kassy Cox (Lufkin, Tx / Lufkin HS) and Jessica Sodich (Arlington, Tx / Ovilla Christian).
Friday, September 6 they will meet Southwestern University, from Georgetown, Tx, at 2:00pm. The SU Pirates were 24-12 a year ago. Afterwards they are scheduled to clash with the University of Dallas at 6:00pm. The U-of-D Crusaders had an 18-20 mark during the 2012 campaign.
On Saturday, September 7, the Purple Pride tangle with the host team at 9:00am. Last fall the AC 'Roos racked up a 24-14 ledger. The itinerary wraps up at 11:00am when they do battle with Sul Ross State University, of Alpine, Tx. The Lady Lobos of SRSU had a 3-19 season last autumn.
All are best-of-five matches, and the four foes are all members of the NCAA's Division III.
A complete review of the matches will be posted here this weekend.
SAGU has announced this year's Tri-Captains as Calverley, Cox and Alissa Kirk (Pataskala, Oh / Gahanna Christian). Each were cited for their outstanding Christian lifestyle.

After this venue, SAGU travels to Salina, Kansas for a similar tournament on September 13-14. Kansas Wesleyan University is the host.
Riding an impressive string of eight consecutive winning regular-season records, Head Coach Hank Moore's squad will make their home debut on September 17. Mid-America Christian University (18-16 in 2012) visits the Sheaffer Center that night to open play in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
