Volleyball plays three in Oklahoma

SAGU meets SWCU, Langston, Bacone

Lady Lions have won two of last three matches

WAXAHACHIE, Texas  --  Fresh after winning two of their past three matches, the Southwestern Assemblies of God University volleyball team is heading to Oklahoma to take on three teams in 24 hours.

On Friday afternoon the Lady Lions (3-9) will meet Southwestern Christian University at 3:00pm (CST). That best-of-five match will take place in Bethany, a suburb on Oklahoma City’s west side.

Four hours later the Lady Lions will be in Langston, 42 miles northeast of OKC. They’ll face Langston University, who shared the same mascot.

This is the first season for the sport on the LU campus. They are competing in the Red River Athletic Conference.

SWCU is currently 1-12 under Head Coach Larry Bittle. The rebuilding Eagles have 13 freshmen on a roster of 16 players. They are members of the NAIA and the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference.

The Blue Birds were swept twice by SAGU in 2011, a year the Eagles went 12-18.

On Saturday, September 22, the Lady Lions will face another RRAC team in Bacone (bah-KONE) College. It is 125 miles from Langston to Muskogee.

The Warriors were 8-20 last fall. During the season SAGU took the lone match between the two schools, 3-0, winning by a three-game total of just eight points.

SAGU coming home on Tuesday

SAGU returns home for their second match in the Sheaffer Center next Tuesday, Sept. 25, at 7:00pm. Arch-rival Texas Wesleyan University, 12-7 after sweeping Langston tonight, visits Waxahachie.

SAGU Sports Live will broadcast the venue in high definition.
