Netters pack for two state trip

WAXAHACHIE, Texas -- The Southwestern Assemblies of God University volleyball team is on the road again. By the time they finally play in the Sheaffer Center on September 23 against Bacone College, they will have played half of their season with all 15 matches away from home.

To say they are used to packing would be an understatement.

It has been said that “you can’t take it with you.” Well, those who say that have never seen a car packed for a family vacation! Or in the case of the Lady Lions, a People Mover.

SAGU will play two matches this weekend; Friday night in Siloam Springs, Arkansas against John Brown University, and Saturday in Bartlesville, Oklahoma versus Oklahoma Wesleyan University.

The Lady Lions, 5-7 through twelve matches, are set to face John Brown (10-4 record) on Friday at 7:00pm. The best-of-five series will be livestreamed with no charge for fans. Details are posted at the following link. http://www.jbu.edu/athletics/volleyball/schedule/2011/

The Golden Eagles have swept SAGU the past two times they have met in 2008 and 2010. JBU, members of the always tough Sooner Athletic Conference, went 18-17 last winter.

Southwestern is slated to meet an improved Oklahoma Wesleyan (9-6) at 2:00pm on Saturday. The Eagles struggled through an 11-24 campaign last fall in the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference. The two teams have tangled only once in recent seasons, with SAGU winning in 2009, 3-0.

Head Coach Hank Moore has spent the early fall developing a young, deep roster. With a 208-158 career mark entering this season, Moore knows a thing or two about preparing a team for the rigors of a conference season.

Lady Lions begin RRAC Season Tuesday in Ft. Worth

Next Tuesday the Lady Lions start 10-games against foes from the Red River Athletic Conference. Texas Wesleyan University is on tap in Fort Worth, September 20, at 7:00pm. The Lady Rams posted a 15-19 record in 2010. SAGU won two-of-the-three meetings.
