WAXAHACHIE, Texas -- Southwestern Assemblies of God University will have their hands full today when the softball team entertains the No. 8 ranked Oklahoma City University in a twinbill on campus.
The first game is slated for a 2:00pm (CST) first pitch. The second contest will get underway approximately twenty minutes following the first. No LiveStats access will be available.
The Lady Lions (6-32 / 1-23 in SAC) have fought a list of injuries this year that have rendered it vulnerable against the Sooner Athletic Conference.
They could get one or two players back in the near future, though leading hitter, Brittney Johnson (Tahlequah, Ok / Tahlequah HS), has been lost for the season. She was leading the at the plate with a .364 batting average as well as in hits and runs scored.
Coupled with that, the club has played 30 of their 38 games on the road.
OKC comes in struggling a bit on their own.
The Stars (32-8 / 15-5 in SAC) are 5-5 over the past ten games, though four of the setbacks came against teams ranked in the NAIA Coaches Poll.
The teams met three weeks ago, with the Stars winning a pair of shortened five inning contests.
Counting today’s doubleheader, the Lady Lions have 16 games remaining in this, their third campaign. Twelve of them are at home.
SAGU’s top two run producers, senior Heather Wyatt (Lake Jackson, Tx / Brazoswood HS) and sophomore Kelsey Coburn (Lewisville, Tx / Lewisville HS), will suit up today. The duo each has driven in 16 runs.
Hannah Lee (Hardinsburg, Ky / Breckinridge HS) has enjoyed the best pitching success with a 6.64 earned run average. Her strike outs-to-walks ratio of 64-21 reveals much about her game.
The Lady Lions will host the University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma (15-19 / 6-12 in SAC) in a four game series this Friday and Saturday.
All games against USAO will be played at the campus ballfield, starting at 2:00pm on Friday and 11:00am on Saturday.
Weather forecasts for the weekend project a partly cloudy sky with temperatures reaching 78-80 degrees.
