Over-the-fence catch is a web-gem

SAGU hosts doubleheader on Monday

WAXAHACHIE, Texas  --  The Southwestern Assemblies of God University softball team endured a difficult 3-2 loss to Bacone College on Saturday afternoon.

The visiting Warriors, held to one hit through five innings, put together a three-run rally in the sixth inning to complete a comeback from a 2-0 deficit.

After a 16-3 loss in the first game in which the Lady Lions defense unraveled, the second game turnaround was tremendous!

SAGU took the lead with a pair of clutch RBI's by their power hitters in the third inning. But the team would collect only three hits in the game, none coming from the last 13 batters.

A shorthanded Purple Pride played their hearts out in the field. There were several sensational plays in the field, including two Houdini-like escapes by the SAGU pitcher when Bacone was threatening.

In the fateful sixth it appeared the Lions would pull another escape on a great double-play turned at third base, only to have the Tribe recover with three consecutive, run-producing hits.

Perhaps the defensive gem of the season occured in the seventh. SAGU's leftfielder leapt high to snare a ball that had cleared the fence, robbing Bacone from a two-run homer. She landed with the ball in the web of her glove, then relayed the it to the infield to complete another double play.

A detailed report of the game will be posted tonight, complete with player's names and stats.

SAGU will play a doubleheader at home on Monday afternoon, April 15, when Hillsdale College (Ok) visits. The first game will begin at 2:00pm.
