SAGU to host MACU on Saturday

Preview of SAGU-vs-Wesleyan Series

WAXAHACHIE, Texas  --  Rain, rain, go away. Come again some other day.

Well, the 'other day' became today, again forcing team officials to reschedule the three-game series between Southwestern Assemblies of God University and Texas Wesleyan University.

SAGU will play a twi-light doubleheader in Fort Worth on Friday. The first game will begin at 5:00pm at Sycamore Park, with the nightcap to start about twenty minutes after Game One ends. (Directions are posted below)

The finale between the Lady Lions (11-12 overall, 5-9 in RRAC) and Lady Ewes (13-17, 6-6 in RRAC) is slated for Monday, April 8, also at TWU. First pitch at 6:00pm.

SAGU -vs- Wesleyan Preview:

The Purple Pride has the second best road record in the Red River Athletic Conference at 10-4. Wesleyan is 7-6 at home.

SAGU is third in the conference in batting with a .333 average, while TWU is fourth at .304.

The Lady Lions' achilles heel has been pitching, where their team earned run average is 18.06. That ranks ninth among the 10 teams in the RRAC. The Rams are third at 3.63.

Besides a huge improvement since last year's .197 team batting average, SAGU has shown a major upsurge in their defense. The team has made just 32 errors in 23 games, an average of 1.39 per contest. That ranks second only to Our Lady of the Lake University's 1.32.

MACU visits SAGU for a Saturday twinbill

Head Coach Tim Grant announced chnages in the four-games between SAGU and Mid-America Christian University (7-19). Originally set for two games in Waxahachie on Friday and two the following day in Oklahoma City, the teams will now play a doubleheader on Saturday, April 6, at the SAGU campus ballfield. The twinbill is set for a 2:00pm start.

Also, the season-ending four-game clash between SAGU and Hillsdale College (Ok), listed for April 26-27, has been moved up to accommodate the NCCAA Central Regional tournament.

The Lady Lions will now play Hillsdale in a single day doubleheader, Monday, April 15, at home, starting at 2:00pm.

SAGU now has 14 games remaining this season, eight of them at home.

The National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Central Regional will be held in Conway, Arkansas on Friday and Saturday, April 26-27. Central Baptist College will serve as its host. The current rankings among regional teams is posted below.

Senior Day set for April 13

Additionally, Senior Day has been officially scheduled as part of a doubleheader on Saturday, April 13, at home against Bacone College. Details will be released later.

The Lady Lions have two senior players; centerfielder Cassandra Mata (Crystal City, Tx / Crystal City HS) and catcher Heather Wyatt (Lake Jackson, Tx / Brazoswood HS).

Directions to Sycamore Park

The games will be played at Sycamore Park, which has lights.

Directions from Waxahachie:
Take Highway 287 northwest toward downtown Fort Worth. Exit Rosedale Avenue east. Turn left at the Sycamore Park entrance. The field (#3) is the third on the left.

Sycamore Park is located less than a mile from the Texas Wesleyan campus and has been the home for Lady Ram Softball since 1989.

The field has a capacity of 500. The dimensions of the field are 210-feet in left field, 225-feet in center field, and 205-feet in right field.
