Coburn crushes first-ever HR at home

SAGU hosts USW in Saturday doubleheader

WAXAHACHIE, Texas  --  Kelsey Coburn (Lewisville, Tx / Lewisville HS) hit the first home run by a Southwestern Assemblies of God University softball player on their campus ballfield during Saturday's 5-3 triumph over the University of the Southwest.

Her solo shot, deep down the leftfield line, tied the score at 1-1 in the second game of a twinbill against USW. The Lady Lions improved their record to 11-8 overall and to 5-6 in the Red River Athletic Conference by breaking a 3-3 tie with a pair of runs in the fourth inning.

Senior centerfielder Cassandra Mata (Crystal City, Tx / Crystal City HS) delievered the game's biggest hit when she lashed a two-run double in the gap in right-centerfield to give the Purple Pride the lead for good.

Sophomore righthander Ashley Abair (Kennedale, Tx / Kennedale HS) picked up the win with a stellar, complete game from the circle. She scattered seven hits over seven innings.

Southwest won the opener with a 10-4 decision, with Shannen Davis-Nance (Enid, Ok / Enid HS) taking the loss.

A complete review of the series will be posted Saturday night.

The teams are scheduled to play two on Saturday, with the first game slated for an 11:00am first pitch.
