Softball Lions take one, give one

Teams take turns ending losing streaks

WAXAHACHIE, Texas -- It was a Midas day. Not the mythological king.

Instead, it was Midas – the one stop shop for automotive brakes.

Both of the women’s softball teams from Southwestern Assemblies of God University and Texas College applied brakes to losing skids during an afternoon doubleheader on the SAGU campus.

SAGU snapped an 18-game losing streak with a 4-2 win in the opener, momentarily moving out of the cellar in the Red River Athletic Conference.

Texas College answered with an early 8-1 lead in the nightcap, holding on for an 8-6 triumph. The win not only moved the Lady Steers out of ninth place and ahead of SAGU, but it broke a string of 38 straight defeats dating back to February of 2011.

A detailed review of the two games, including the “Senior Day” recognition of pitcher Tabitha Ray (Brazoria, Tx), will be posted on Wednesday.

The Lady Lions travel to Muskogee, Oklahoma for a three-game series against Bacone College this weekend.

Their final home game of their inaugural campaign is next Tuesday, April 17, against Texas College. The first pitch set for 4:00pm.
