Southwestern Assemblies of God University will host Langston University (Okla) in a doubleheader today at 3:00pm and 5:00pm. The second game will commence approximately twenty-minutes after the first.

The Lady Lions, who have played their initial 15-games out of town, will christen their new campus ballfield with five contests over 48 hours against Langston and Huston-Tillotson University on Friday and Saturday.

A special ceremony will be held prior to Friday’s 4:00pm match with the Tillotson Rams.

SAGU will tangle with HT (from Austin, Tx) in a twinbill set to begin at noon on Saturday.

The new facilities, which include an expanded dugout for SAGU, a clay infield and a regulation outfield with six-foot fences. Its 203 feet down the lines and 216 to center.

Located next to Pride Park, where the soccer teams play, and beside the refurbished baseball practice field, the softball diamond is also adjacent (behind) to the Sheaffer Center.

Head Coach Tim Grant will send freshman righthander and former Waxahachie High School pitcher Lauren Johnson to the mound for the start in the home opener. Johnson got the team's first start of the season, a 3-2 extra-inning loss in Oklahoma.

Johnson and Kyla Burke (Red Oak, Tx / Red Oak HS), another local standout, were the first two players to sign with SAGU.

Albreshia 'Bree' Lawrence (Waxahachie, Tx / Waxahachie HS), who has played numerous positions very well, is a home-grown product who has contributed from the start.

Weather conditions should see a mostly cloudy sky and temperatures above 75 degrees. Forecasts are calling for southerly winds at 13 mph.

Expect 80 degrees and a mostly cloudy sky on Friday, with 82 and partly cloudy conditions on Saturday.

The Lady Lions, who dropped a pair of games at Langston five weeks ago, will use both Shannen Davis (Kremlin, Ok / Kremlin-Hillsdale HS) and senior Tabitha Ray (Brazoria, Tx / Homeschool) in the doubleheader.

Weather delayed construction and pushed back the Lions original debut over six weeks.

Admission is free to the general public. Fans can attend by turning right onto East University Avenue (between Burger King and Big Lots) off of Highway 77 / Main Street in Waxahachie. Cross John Arden Drive and enter the campus on the east side by the entrance with flags.
