Diamond 'Cats home series cancelled

Texas College team unable to play

Home debut now set for March 26-27

WAXAHACHIE, Texas -- The much awaited home debut for the newest sport at Southwestern Assemblies of God University, the women’s fast-pitch softball campus home opener, has been delayed again.

The three-game series with Texas College, scheduled for Friday and Saturday, March 2-3, was cancelled when TC’s team didn’t have enough players to send from their Tyler campus.

Weather and construction delays had previously affected Opening Day on campus.

SAGU was originally going to begin their inaugural campaign on January 28 at home versus Hillsdale College. Their second series for Waxahachie was on tap for February 24-25 with Langston University. Both were postponed and played in Oklahoma instead.

The TC Lady Steers may have to forfeit the trio of games, or have them rescheduled at a later date.

Southwestern, under head coach Tim Grant, will be on the road for the next six games, at Northwood University (Cedar Hill, Texas) and at the University of the Southwest (Hobbs, New Mexico).

Weather permitting, the next anticipated dates for bringing the sport to the new campus ballpark is March 26-27. Texas Wesleyan University will be the opponent.
