Softball home debut next week
SAGU to host Texas College, March 2-3
Weather delays completion of campus ballpark
WAXAHACHIE, Texas -- The Southwestern Assemblies of God University women’s fast-pitch softball team has postponed this weekend’s home debut on the new campus field due to weather conditions that have delayed the completion of the ballpark.
Heavy rains in recent weeks have wreaked havoc on the final details being finished.
This weekend’s three-game series with Langston University, originally slated for Friday and Saturday, have been rescheduled.
Instead, SAGU will travel to Langston, Oklahoma to play a doubleheader on Saturday. The first game, which starts at 2:00pm, will count as a conference game. The ensuing contest will not count against the teams’ conference record.
The remaining two conference games will be played at Southwestern at a future 2012 date yet to be arranged.
Under the leadership of head coach Tim Grant, the Lady Lions, playing in their inaugural season, are currently off to a 1-3 start. Langston, whose mascot is also the Lions, have yet to play their first game.
Weather permitting, SAGU will host Texas College in a three-game series the first weekend in March.
The Lady Lions are members in the Red River Athletic Conference.
