SAGU takes on OLLU in twinbill

After Friday rainout, teams play DH today

SAN ANTONIO, Texas  --  After having their fifth game of the young season rained out on Friday, the women's softball teams from Southwestern Assemblies of God University and Our Lady of the Lake University will play a double-header on Saturday.

The Lady Lions are in their inaugural season. Under Head Coach Tim Grant, the team split a twin-bill a week ago in Moore, Oklahoma against Hillsdale College. Grant may go with the pitching combo that were so effective last Saturday.

Righthanders Lauren Johnson (Waxahachie, Tx / Waxahachie HS), who allowed just two hits and struck out five in a complete-game 3-2 setback, and Kelsea Svochak (Ft. Worth, Tx / Bethesda Christian HS), who hurled a seven hitter in the 5-1 win. Svochak (pictured left), did not issue a walk and whiffed three in the second game.

Two other pitchers who could see action include senior Tabitha Ray (Brazoria, Tx / Homeschool) and sophomore Shannen Davis (Kremlin, Ok / Kremlin-Hillsdale HS).

The Lady Lions' current schedule is open next week while they prepare for their home debut on February 24-25. Langston University (Ok) visits for a three-game series.

The teams will open SAGU's new, on-campus softball park with a 3:00pm clash on Friday, then play a doubleheader the following day at noon. The Lady Lions' 28-game schedule includes twelve home dates.

Construction details are in their final stages at the new facility which is located adjacent to the Sheaffer Center. The team practiced there last week.
