coach-oancea-jhernandezWAXAHACHIE, Texas  --  A scheduled doubleheader between Southwestern Assemblies of God University and Oklahoma City University on Saturday afternoon was called due to lightning activity in the area.

The women’s team had just walked out for pre-game introductions when a flash of lightning led game officials to withdraw the teams from the pitch.

As per NAIA rules, any such lightning within a three mile radius of an outdoor game calls for a minimum of a 30-minute delay. The storm moved in for an extended stay, leading to the decision to postpone the games.

SAGU and OCU are members in the Sooner Athletic Conference, so the league games will likely be rescheduled. An announcement is forthcoming.

The Lady Lions (1-6) have lost four in a row. Their next game is on Friday, October 6, against Mid-America Christian University. MACU is 5-2 overall. The contest starts at 2:00pm in Oklahoma City.

The Lions (3-5), who have finished on the wrong side of the scoreboard in their last three matches, will face MACU (4-2-1) at 4:00pm on Friday. The teams have enjoyed a spirited history in recent seasons.

In 2012 the Evangels won, 1-0, with a goal in double overtime. SAGU had controlled the play and had command of the statistics, but couldn't finish. MACU had a 9-7-2 record last fall.
