WAXAHACHIE, Texas  --  After several weeks of non-conference action, the 2013 college soccer season begins final preparation for league games.

Southwestern Assemblies of God University women’s and men’s soccer teams will play host to a pair of games on Friday afternoon that will offer very stiff competition.

Our Lady of the Lake University, located in San Antonio, visits for games at 2:00pm and 4:00pm on the SAGU campus (1200 Sycamore Street).

While SAGU’s soccer program is young, they are improving and desire to test their mettle against good competition. In OLLU, they will certainly have their hands full.

The Lady Saints enter the 2pm clash with a 5-1-1 record. OLLU also has a score to settle. A year ago they were unbeaten and sitting atop the Red River Athletic Conference when SAGU visited the Alamo City.

A goal in the 88th minute by Jessica Powell-Roman stunned OLLU, who had controlled a scoreless game to that point. The 1-0 triumph was SAGU's biggest win in a 6-11-1 season.

Head Coach Mandy Fortner’s Lady Lions are led by junior goalie Haley Shingleton (Deer Park, Tx / Deer Park HS) and freshman midfielder Madeleine Thornley (Flower Mound, Tx / Marcus HS).

The men’s game pits the Lions, who are 3-3, and the Saints, who tote a 5-0 ledger.

SAGU plays the possession game and have outscored their opponents 13-9. The Blue Halos own an impressive 17-2 margin in goals. OLLU is outstanding on defense, pitching three shutouts.

Last fall the Lions came up on the wrong end of a 2-0 outcome in San Antonio.

Behind Head Coach Clem Oancea (WAHN-cha), SAGU has three standout offensive performers; junior forward Jonathan Ramos (Tegucigalpa, Honduras / Garringer HS), sophomore midfielder Lee Kounas (Oak Cliff, Tx / Townview HS) and Robert Ambrosie (Iasi, Romania / Richard Wurmbrand HS), a sophomore forward.

Senior goalie Cesar Galvan (Allen, Tx / Lovejoy HS), along with Ramos, are skilled and vociferous leaders.

Fans can attend the games at the Lions’ campus park or view them on-line. SAGU Sports Live will broadcast both games in HD.
