SAGU beats Rams, advance to RRAC finals
Lions (29-3) face St. Thomas (27-5) on Monday
Last home game of the year is a huge showdown
WAXAHACHIE, Texas -- On the strength of a scoring surge midway through the first half, Southwestern Assemblies of God University toppled Texas Wesleyan University, 98-83, on Saturday night inside the Sheaffer Center.
Leading 23-20, the Lions broke the game open with a 15-1 run in a stretch of 4:46 on the clock. Their 38-21 upper-hand swelled to 48-26, a lead that was never threatened.
Dominique Rambo had a near-record setting performance in the game, much to the delight of a packed crowd. He went toe-to-toe with Wesleyan’s Oscar Griffin in a shootout that saw the combatants go the distance, each pouring in points.
SAGU, now 29-3, advances to the finals of the Red River Athletic Conference tournament. On Monday, March 4, they will meet the #3 seed, the University of St. Thomas, in the championship game at 5:30pm (CST).
It will be the last home appearance this year for SAGU. Next, they enter the NAIA's 32-team national tourney, March 13-19, in Kansas City, Missouri.
The Celts (27-5) arrived by battling past #2 LSU-Shreveport, 69-63.
A detailed review of the game, and the Rambo-Griffin point-fest, will be posted, along with the game’s box score, on Sunday.
