SAGU builds 23-point lead, coasts to tourney win

WAXAHACHIE, Texas  --  Southwestern Assemblies of God University won their Red River Athletic Conference tournament first round game on Friday afternoon by eliminating Langston University, 87-79, in the Sheaffer Center.

The Lions led by 23-points with 4:30 left in the game before Head Coach Donnie Bostwick emptied his 15-man bench. Langston applied a press in the closing minutes to make the final score more respectable.

SAGU (28-3) advances to the semi-finals at 6:00pm on Saturday to play the winner of the #4 seed Our Lady of the Lake University versus #5 Texas Wesleyan University game.

Langston got off to a solid start with three quick dunks in building an eight point lead. The Lions regrouped and led at the half, 38-34.

SAGU dominated play throughout the second half with five players scoring in double figures. Jon Walter and Emmanuel Adoyi led the charge.

A complete report will be posted later tonight, along with all results from the eight games played. The eight men's and top eight women's teams are in town for the single-elimination tourney.

The finals will be played on Monday night; men at 5:30pm and 8:00pm for the women.
