Lions blow out Southwest, 102-70
WAXAHACHIE, Texas -- During their recent eleven-game winning streak, the Southwestern Assemblies of God University men’s basketball team has scratched and clawed its way to 10 wins by 10-points or less. Until Monday.
Leaving no doubt about the outcome, SAGU won their 12th game in a row in a 102-70 rout of Southwest. The Lions led from the opening basket in building an 84-42 lead with ten minutes remaining.
SAGU will be back in action on Thursday when Huston-Tillotson University (6-17, 5-11 in RRAC) visits the Sheaffer Center. The women’s game is set to start at 5:30pm, followed by the men at 7:30pm.
The Lions defense held the visiting Mustangs to 30% shooting accuracy and dominated the boards, 60-34.
Twelve players scored for the hosts, who were on top at the half, 49-23.
Dominique Rambo (Dallas, Tx / Okla. Wesleyan Univ., Trinity Christian School) led with 26 points, while Caleb "Hondo" Gentry (Hondo, Tx / Ok. Wesleyan Univ., Hondo HS) netted 19. Mike Nwelue (Lewisville, Tx / Lewisville HS) added 10 points and eight rebounds.
The first place Lions improved their overall record to 21-3 and their mark in the RRAC to 15-2.
