Eight teams in the Rockies seek nationals berth
LAKEWOOD, Colorado -- There’s nothing like a change in scenery to remind you that you’re no longer in Kansas.
The men’s basketball team from Southwestern Assemblies of God University have taken the team to new places all season, are in Denver to compete in a tournament with the NCCAA. (See photo of team at Red Rocks on Tuesday)

Eight teams are vying for a berth at next week’s nationals of the National Christian College Athletic Association. The Lions are seeded second behind Dallas Baptist University.
About Southwestern Christian
SAGU will meet Southwestern Christian University tonight at 10:00pm (CST). The host of the venue is Colorado Christian University, which is in suburban Lakewood.
They are NCAA Division II members of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
The SWCU Eagles have four players averaging in double-figures, led by 6’4 forward Tyler Averill’s 14.5 points per game.
Clinton Amberry, a 6’10 center, scores 11.6, while Marc Traylor and Glenn Irwin account for 11.3 and 10.6 ppg respectively. The latter two players are 6’0 and 6’1 guards.
Southwestern Christian, from the Oklahoma City suburb of Bethany, averages 78.0 ppg and yield 82.5. They are in the NAIA’s Division II.
Conversely, SAGU (23-9) scores 80.0 and allows 71.4.
Through 32 games, the Lions top three scorers are Dominique Rambo (Dallas, Tx / Oklahoma Wesleyan Univ., Trinity Christian School) 17.2, Craig Grigsby (Houston, Tx / Glenda Dawson HS) 11.1 and Ronald Horne (Waco, Tx / Univ of N. Texas, Waco HS) 9.0.
A year ago the Lions went 1-1 at Central Regional, which was hosted by MACU in Oklahoma City. SAGU defeated Crowley's Ridge College (Ark) 96-90, before coming up short against Mid-America Christian University (Okla), 102-98.

Should the Lions win tonight, they will play the winner between the #6 seed and host Colorado Christian University (NCAA Division II) and the #3 seeded Mid-America.
They play at 8:00pm (CST) tonight. All games can be followed on LiveStats.
The other two quarterfinal match-ups include #1 seed Dallas Baptist against #8 Crowley’s Ridge at 4:00pm and #4 Oklahoma Wesleyan University and #5 Central Christian College (Kan) at noon.
The won-lost records of the teams in the field include: DBU 15-13, SAGU 23-8, MACU 14-13, Okla Wesleyan 15-15, Central Christian 19-12, Colorado Christian 3-23, SWCU 11-15, Crowley’s Ridge 6-24.
Fans should keep in mind that teams in the National Christian College Athletic Association are from different levels of competition, from the NCAA’s Division II, the NAIA’s Division I and II, and the NCCAA’s Division I.
Records speak heavily of the degree of competition they have faced.
The winner of the Central Regional qualifies as one of eight teams at Nationals. That tourney, March 14-17, will be hosted by Grace College in Winona Lake, Indiana.
