WAXAHACHIE, Texas -- Southwestern Assemblies of God University lost more than two basketball games since the most recent NAIA Top 25 Coaches Poll. They lost some voters as well.

After a 9-0 start that placed them at #27 with 50 votes – their first appearance since joining the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, they went 2-2 in the weeks preceding Monday’s next Coaches Poll balloting.

The Lions, at 10-2, slipped six spots to #33 in the group of teams who received votes but didn’t crack the Top 25. The number of votes they garnered this time dropped to nine.

Their only two setbacks came against #6 Texas Wesleyan University and #16 Our Lady of the Lake University, both fellow members of the Red River Athletic Conference. Both defeats also occurred on the road.

“We just have to keep plugging away,” said Head Coach Donnie Bostwick. “We have plenty to work on. Winning takes care of poll figures.”

There will be changes in next week's Top 25. Monday night in San Antonio, OLLU routed Texas Wesleyan, 120-98. The Saints were on fire from downtown, draining 22 of 49 (45%) three-pointers on their home court.

This Thursday, January 12, the Lions will play host to Wiley College. The Wildcats also made the poll in the “Receiving Votes” category at #36. Wiley is 9-4 overall and 5-3 in the RRAC.

A preview of the game will appear on-line Wednesday night.

SAGU also entertains Paul Quinn College on Saturday.

Both games begin with a 7:30pm (CST) tip-off and each will be broadcast in High Definition on SAGU TV.
