Rambo named Player of the Week

Point-guard garners RRAC honor

WAXAHACHIE, Texas -- Sophomore Dominique Rambo was named the Player of the Week (games during December 5-11) by the Red River Athletic Conference on Monday, December 12.

The 5-foot-10 point guard averaged 27.5 points per game during a pair of conferenced wins for Southwestern Assemblies of God University.

He poured in a career-high 33 points in the Lions’ 116-97 corralling of the University of the Southwest last Monday. In that game he had four assists and made five steals against the Mustangs.

Over the weekend the former football and hoops star at Cedar Hill’s Trinity Christian School led SAGU with 22 points as they topped Tillotson, 86-64. He swished five three-point baskets in that game.

Rambo connected on 21 of 38 shots from the field (.553), including nine triples as the Lions improved their overall ledger to 9-0. Entering this week they were tied with three other teams for first in the RRAC; Our Lady of the Lake University (7-3, 4-0 in RRAC), Texas Wesleyan University (6-1, 3-0), St. Thomas - Houston (4-4, 3-0) along with SAGU (9-0, 3-0).

“Bo,” as is called by teammates, is 8th in the RRAC in scoring at 19.3 ppg. He is 13th in shooting percentage, making 43% of his tries. He is tops in the league in three-pointers (31) and is second in treys per game (3.4 per gm). His 3.78 steals per contest is also best in the Red River while he is eighth in assists, dishing out 3.89 per outing.

As a freshman at Oklahoma Wesleyan University, Rambo averaged 14.3 ppg. His high game was 26 against Haskell University (Kan). The Eagles were 29-5 last season.

Robert Martinez of Our Lady of the Lake University (Tex), Ronnie Moss of Texas Wesleyan University and LaDarren Williams of Texas College were additional nominees according to RRAC Sports Information Director, Darin David. The Red River league offices are located in Waco.

On Deck: SAGU takes on #7 Rams

The Lions will be on the road when they resume playing after the holidays. They will meet no. 7 Texas Wesleyan University in (6-1, 3-0 in RRAC) Ft. Worth on Thursday, January 5.

SAGU (9-1, 3-1 RRAC) will begin broadcasting the remainder of their home games when they play host to Langston University (2-8, 2-3 RRAC) on Saturday, Jan. 7. SAGU SPORTS Live is a top of the line livestream in High Definition that is believed to be the best in the NAIA.
