CJ mountain bikingFor many, summer evokes vivid memories – the warmth of the sun and smell of sunscreen while relaxing by the pool, adventurous family vacations, or the cool taste of ice-cream on a hot afternoon. Each spring as the semester winds down, students excitedly make plans for the 3-month break. Many use the opportunity to blend much-needed relaxation with internships or academic projects to get ahead in their studies.

We asked five Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lions to share how they are spending their summers.

Caleb "CJ" Celestino, '14, Digital Media
CJ began his summer with his fellow SAGU colleagues producing SAGU's fifth student film and first ever feature-length film, Drawing a Blank. After a month of filming, he returned home to Taos, New Mexico, where he spends time brushing up on his Spanish and sign language. Living close to the mountains, he regularly rides his mountain bike, fishes and swims in the Rio Grande. In July, he travels to the southern banks of Wadi 'Ajjuris to Tell es-Safi, Israel, as an embedded video journalist to film a mini-documentary of SAGU's archaeological dig. Students from the SAGU Ancient Studies program are partnering with other universities to uncover a Philistine temple, evidence of a major earthquake in biblical times. Caleb says, "I look forward to being a light to my past. Coming home offers the opportunity to rekindle friendships and be of assistance to my community."

Caleb Feemster, '15, Business Administration
On the first day of summer, Caleb flew to Wales, UK, to visit family who are missionaries. From Wales, he flew to California and spent four days with friends going to the beach and sight-seeing. He then travelled to San Antonio, Texas, where he watched the San Antonio Spurs capture their fifth NBA title. When he finally got home to Dallas, Texas, the work began. He started an internship at a sports agency in Addison where he spent time with NBA lottery draft picks. After his internship, Caleb began training to defend SAGU's back-to-back NAIA conference championship wins in basketball. When he is not perfecting his game for the upcoming season, Caleb works basketball camps in the Dallas area. "I want to bring joy to kids with the game that has brought so much joy to my life."

Brenna Embretson, '14, Counseling
Brenna is interning at a Christian counseling center in Lake Elmo, Minnesota, called Counseling Care. She handles marketing assignments and sits in on case reviews with counselors and supervisors. She earns a lot of experience by presenting for staff meetings, observing counseling sessions, researching topics and creating informational sheets. She also represents the company at promotional events. "I am learning so much while being at Counseling Care," Brenna explains. "Seeing the role Christian counselors play in their patients' lives is amazing. Being the only intern is hard sometimes, but I am grateful for this opportunity." Brenna lives in Eagan, Minnesota, which is a suburb of Minneapolis and St. Paul. Other than making occasional trips into the city, she likes spending time at her family's cabin where she goes on their pontoon, fishes for walleye and northern pike, four-wheels in the woods, and Jet skis.

Brittany Pridemore, '14, Business Management
Brittany is spending her summer writing and recording music, fishing, hiking and camping. She is also interning in the promotions department at KLTY, a family radio station in Dallas, Texas. She is acquiring great experience as they prepare for the 24th Annual Celebrate Freedom Independence Day Concert that brings Michel W. Smith, Crowder, Britt Nicole, Jamie Grace and many more to Dallas. She is also working with Andrea Jaxson, a producer for Light Night with Andrea, a radio segment from 7-12 p.m. "As a business major, I searched for an internship that incorporated business strategies and things I was passionate about. I love music, concerts and anything that has to do with productions, so KLTY was a perfect fit"

Corey Webb, '15, Church Ministries
Corey is helping plant RidgeLife church in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. The church will launch in September. During his time there, he is also working for Lewis & Clark River Expeditions, a whitewater rafting company, and taking 12 hours through SAGU Online. He likes to hike, fish and explore the Grand Tetons area in his free time. "Things are going well. Lots of planning right now, but I'm learning so much. It's crazy busy, but so fun!"
