Weekend of Wins on the Turf
Football and Soccer Lions roar to victories
Martinez sparks futbol, Golson lifts football team
WAXAHACHIE, Texas -- Both versions of football; soccer and American football, produced exciting wins over the weekend for Southwestern Assemblies of God University.
The SAGU Lions futbol squad rolled to an impressive 4-1 triumph over Bethany College (Kansas) on Saturday afternoon. Danny Martinez scored a pair of goals as the team evened their record at 2-2-1.
The football Lions won in dramatic fashion. After building a commanding 14-3 lead midway through the fourth quarter, SAGU lost the ball, the momentum and the lead as Howard Payne University (Texas) seized the lead, 15-14, with 1:17 to play.
Sophomore quarterback Reid Golson then engineered a seven play, 63 yard drive to the end zone. After completing several passes, two to Nic Morphew and another to Sean Haynes, he capped the march with a 3-yard TD run off right tackle with only twenty-one seconds to play for a 21-15 victory.
Detailed reports of these games, complete with action photos, will be posted later today.

The men's soccer team returns to the pitch on Tuesday when they play the University of Dallas at 5:00pm. The competition will be held on the Crusaders' Irving campus.
