Prospective Athletes Drawn to Waxahachie

WAXAHACHIE, Texas -- Spring, the season for hope and renewal, has arrived on the campus of Southwestern Assemblies of God University. The athletic community, most of which are in off-season mode, are hard at work securing potential student-athletes for the upcoming 2011-12 season.

Coaching staffs have been scouting, meeting with individuals and their families and following up on other candidates. Head Coaches have developed off-season conditioning plans for their teams, directed spring camps, as well as finalizing scrimmage and future schedules.

Potential Athletes Should Complete Recruitment Form

Prospective athletes can state their interest in attending SAGU by completing an on-line document that will go directly to coaches. On the website, interested individuals should click on Athletics on the front page menu. Then, locate Forms to access an application.

Recruiting News and Player Signings

Reports on individual teams will begin to be posted next week and throughout April. Players who have transferred or signed a National Letter of Intent will be introduced, also starting in April. Teams do not identify players unless a commitment has been received.

Southwestern fields teams in both men's and women's sports. The busiest time of year commences in August when football, volleyball and both men's and women's soccer teams report for fall camp. Those teams conclude their seasons towards the end of November.

SAGU enjoys joint membership in the NAIA and NCCAA

SAGU Athletics are strongly affiliated as members in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA – Division I) as well as the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA – Division I). The football Lions participate in the Central States Football League (7 teams) while all other sports are adherents in the Red River Athletic Conference, which has 15 members from four states.

Sports Medicine

Critically important in the ongoing health and wellbeing of athletes is their care by Southwestern's Sports Medicine, which is directed by Head Athletic Trainer, Jaroy Carpenter. Along with a solid staff and Dr. Luis Palacios, players receive both rehabilitation and preventative attention.

SAGU Sports Medicine recently moved into expanded facilities that better equip them at serving athletes.
