Waxahachie, TX- June 30, 2014- The dust has hardly had time to settle on the diamond for the Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Baseball Lions but Coach Sam Blackmon has been working to secure the future of the team.  The 2014 season was a year of rebuilding for the lions and ended with a record of 18-33.  For the 2015 SAGU baseball team nearly two dozen new faces will be filling the roster. 

Anthony Mantalvo is an infielder from Mansfield Summitt High School in Mansfield, Texas.   Coach Blackmon believes Mantalvo is a key signee for the Lions,  “Anthony is a great young man and we are really excited having him as our first signee for the 2014-2015 recruiting class.”   

Tyler Miller is from Moody High School in Moody, Texas.  Miller will be a dual player in both pitching and outfield.  Miller was on the all-district team the past two years. 

Michael Heron is from Frisco High School and is a dual player that will spend time pitching as well as in the outfield. 

Jake Payonk is from Caldwell High School in Caldwell, Texas.  Coach Blackmon says, “Jake is a very gifted player and an exceptional young man.  We are excited about what he brings to us."

Justin Harvey is from Waco Robinson High School and he will have a spot in the pitching lineup.  Harvey wrapped up a successful senior year where the Robinson Rockets were state ranked.

Hayden Ballard is originally from Crowley, Texas but comes to SAGU as a transfer from Howard Payne University.  Ballard will see time on the pitching mound for the Lions. 

David Ancira is an outfielder from Taylor, Texas.  Ancira has been a varsity starter all four years of High School. 
 
Eric Yarger is an infielder from Joshua High School in Joshua, Texas.  Coach Blackmon claims, “We are really excited about Eric’s future with us here at SAGU.  He is a very solid young man.”

Jarrayd Maybin is another recruit coming from Waco Robinson High School in Waco, Texas.  Coach Blackmon tells us that Maybin's athleticism is what caught his attention, "Jarrayd is a tremendous athlete and very skilled baseball player."

Jesse Medina is from McCollum High School in San Antonio, Texas.  Medina will be an addition to the pitching staff. 

Dylan Meyers is a catcher from Pantego Christian High School in Arlington, Texas. “We believe he will impact our program immediately," says Coach Blackmon. 

Anthony Arechiga is from Ferris High School but comes to SAGU from Navarro Junior College.  Arechiga will play in the outfield. 

Zach Lynch is from McGregor High School in McGregor, Texas.  Lynch is a pitcher and utility player. 

Kevin McCreight is from Grace Prep in Arlington, Texas but comes to SAGU from El Paso Junior College.  McCreight is an infielder and Coach Blackmon believes he will bring leadership to the program. 

Elijah Young is from Aaron Academy High School in Nashville, TN but will be transferring from Victory University.  Young will be playing infield. 

Austen Lange is from Sanger High School in Sanger, Texas.  Lange will be a duel sport player committing to football as well. 

Curtis Webb is from Brazosport Christian School in Lake Jackson, Texas. In high school Webb played 1stbase where he was given all-district and all-state honors.  He also helped to lead his team to the 2014 2A state championship. 

Gabriel Lopez is from Lubbock Christian High School in Lubbock, Texas. Coach Blackmon is excited for what Lopez brings to the table, “He is a very solid defensive player and hard worker.  Gabriel will bring a lot to our program.” 

Griffin Glenn is from Ovilla Christian School in Ovilla, Texas.  Glenn helped lead his baseball team to the first district championship in school history.
   
Kiefer Ballard is from Mansfield Legacy High School in Mansfield, Texas.  Coach Blackmon believes Ballard will make a quick impact in their pitching staff. 

Russell Walters is from Fort Worth Temple Christian High School in Fort Worth, Texas.  Walters will be added to the SAGU pitching staff.
