Nelson de Freitas selected as SAGU's Director of World Ministries
Waxahachie, Texas — June 13, 2013 — Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) announces Nelson de Freitas as the Director of World Ministries. The de Freitas come to SAGU after 22 years as missionaries to the Dominican Republic.
SAGU President Kermit Bridges shared, “The administration considered several excellent candidates throughout this process. Following the interview with current World Ministries Director Chad Germany, it was clear that God was leading the de Freitas family to SAGU."
Nelson earned an Associate of Arts in computer science from St. Petersberg, Fla., and graduated from Southeastern Assemblies of God University (SEU) in Lakeland, Fla., with a Bachelor of Arts in pastoral ministries.
In 1989, the AG Peninsular Florida District ordained Nelson, and in 1991 he became an Assemblies of God World Missions (AGWM). He graduated from CINCEL Spanish Language School in 1993. Since 2007, Nelson has been attending the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary (Springfield, MO) through the Costa Rica Study Center.
Nelson has served as advisor to the Dominican Republic National Missions Department (NMD), co-director of King’s Castle Children’s Ministries (KCCM) for the Dominican Republic, and co-director of the Dominican Missions Bible Institute. Nelson is also the founder and developer of CIMA del Rey, the Caribbean Institute for Missions Advancement.
Nelson's wife Rennae attended SEU from 1989-1990, attended Global University (Springfield, MO) from 1999-2000, and graduated CINCEL Spanish Language School in 1993. In 2012, Rennae graduated from the SAGU School of Distance Education with a Bachelor of Arts in church ministries. She became an ordained minister in 2011.
Rennae worked as a preschool teacher and served as advisor to the Dominican Republic NMD, Director of the NMD children’s missions program, co-director of KCCM, co-director for Dominican Missions Bible Institute, member of the Board of Directors for Bethesda Home, co-director for Engage Dominican Republic, member of the Executive Wives Ministry Committee National AG, and member of the Board of Directors for ACACOTRAMUNA – human trafficking NGO. Rennae has also trained church groups in ministering to women in prostitution.
