SAGU soccer teams play on the Gulf today
Women and Men meet UH-Victoria
SAGU hosts Oklahoma City Univ., on Saturday
WAXAHACHIE, Texas -- Both the men’s and women’s soccer teams from Southwestern Assemblies of God University are on the road this afternoon for a doubleheader on the Texas Gulf Coast.
SAGU will meet the University of Houston at Victoria; women at 3:00pm (CST), men at 5:00pm.
Victoria (pop. 111,163), named after the first president of Mexico, Gen. Guadalupe Victoria, is 290 miles south of Waxahachie. It is also 128 mi. southwest of Houston.
“The Cage” is UHV’s on-campus playing field. The natural grass pitch is located at 3007 North Ben Wilson, Victoria, TX 77901.
The Lady Lions, at 1-5, look to snap a three-game skid. The Pride have netted four goals and surrendered 14.
UHV, an NAIA Independent, will carry a 4-5 ledger into the match. The Lady Jaguars are 3-0 at home and have an overall 18-25 goal scored-yielded margin.
Houston-Victoria came to Waxahachie last year and escaped with a 1-0 win on a late tally.
SAGU’s men are 3-4; 13 goals, 12 allowed. The Jags, winners of six straight, sport a 7-2 mark; 20 goals, 9 allowed. They appear at #33 on the current NAIA Coaches Poll.
Last season the Lions thumped UHV (9-7-1) in Waxahachie, 4-1.
SAGU will be without the services of two starters, but look to re-gain Robert Ambrosie (Lasi, Romania / Richard Wurmbrand HS).
He has missed two games. The sophomore forward has three goals this fall and had one of the team’s four goals versus UHV in 2012.
