Lightning nixes SAGU Soccer on Saturday
WAXAHACHIE, Texas -- A scheduled doubleheader between Southwestern Assemblies of God University and Oklahoma City University on Saturday afternoon was called due to lightning activity in the area.
The women’s team had just walked out to the center circle for pre-game introductions when a flash of lightning led game officials to withdraw the teams from the pitch.
As per NAIA rules, any such lightning within a three mile radius of an outdoor game calls for a minimum of a 30-minute delay. The storm moved in for an extended stay, leading to the decision to postpone the games.
SAGU and OCU are members in the Sooner Athletic Conference, so the league games will likely be rescheduled. An announcement is forthcoming.
The Lady Lions (1-6) have lost four in a row. Their next game is on Friday, October 6, against Mid-America Christian University. MACU is 5-2 overall. The contest starts at 2:00pm in Oklahoma City.
SAGU lost to the Lady Evangels a year ago in their season opener. MACU got off to a 6-3 start in 2012 before finishing 9-10-0.
The Lions (3-5), who have finished on the wrong side of the scoreboard in their last three matches, will face MACU (4-2-1) at 4:00pm on Friday.
