SAGU's six teams in action on campus

WAXAHACHIE, Texas  --  A few hundred student-athletes will check-in on Monday morning on campus signaling the start of training camps for six athletic teams at Southwestern Assemblies of God University.

Players will be introduced to coaches, to other players and trainers. Itineraries will be laid out of daily schedules, including a grocery list of items addressing their physical needs; from meal times, medical coverage, the need for hydration and proper rest.

Goals, academic and athletic, will be regular fare in team meetings, as will the need to buy into who they represent on and off the field.

The best coaches are mentors who excel at teaching life-lessons, and SAGU does not suffer a shortage in this arena.

Head Football Coach Jesse Godding, who also wears the Athletic Director’s hat, leads the way. The Lions have added three sports teams under his visionary leadership.

SAGU, who has 10 teams overall, will have five of them begin to toil in the heat of Texas; men’s and women’s soccer, football and men’s and women’s cross country. Volleyball players hold their workouts indoors.

This week kicks into full gear on Tuesday with most squads initiating two-a-day practices.

They do have a break later in the week for Media Day, highlighted by photo and video sessions.

Pre-Season polls and rankings will start to be released this week along with season previews.
