SAGU offers cross-country as a varsity sport
Waxahachie, Texas — February 22, 2013 — Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) will offer cross-country as a men's and women's varsity sport in Fall 2013. Teams will compete in the Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) in the National Athletic Intercollegiate Association (NAIA).
The competitive season in the SAC will consist of five meets and the conference championship. SAGU will join 199 NAIA institutions that sponsor cross-country.
Cross-country will be the ninth sport offered at SAGU alongside baseball, men's and women's basketball, football, men's and women's soccer, softball and volleyball. SAGU Athletics plans to launch the program with 20 student-athletes, 10 men and 10 women.
Athletic Director Jesse Godding said, “SAGU is excited about adding cross-country as a varsity sport this year. As we studied the possibility of adding cross-country, it became clear that it was a fiscally viable sport for SAGU and would provide additional opportunities to recruit student-athletes.”
SAGU is currently seeking a cross-country head coach for the men's and women's teams. Click here to apply.
At the Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) basketball game on February 21, 2013, SAGU unveiled a new athletic logo. The release of the new logo was timed with SAGU's transition to the Sooner Athletic Conference and the introduction of cross-country.
