Diamond Cats take 3-of-4 on Friday
Softball earns first sweep; Baseball splits
Lady Lions, Lions on the road in Ok, Ark
WAXAHACHIE, Texas -- Southwestern Assemblies of God University enjoyed a successful Friday on the diamond with the Lady Lions sweeping Hillsdale College and the Lions splitting a twinbill at Ecclesia College.
Both teams are out of town playing back-to-back doubleheaders, the softball team in Moore, Oklahoma while the baseball club plays in the cold Ozark Mountains of Springdale, Arkansas.
Results of today's games will be posted later, with detailed reports later in the weekend.
Head Coach Tim Grant and his second-year Lady Lions, now 2-3, savored their first-ever day to take both ends of a doubleheader. They won the first contest, 7-3, then rolled in the nightcap by a 12-2 count.
Pitchers Shannen (Davis) Nance (Enid, Ok / Kremlin-Hillsdale HS) picked up the win in Game One, while freshman Blair Huff (Keller, Tx / Liberty Christian) registered the win in Game Two.
It was the first career triumph for each.
A year ago the young Lady Lions went 2-28 with the victories going to Kelsea Svochak and Lauren Johnson.
The baseball Lions were involved in a pair of two-run games, claiming the first, 11-9, then yielding the second, 10-8. SAGU is now 9-7 and will face the Royals again today at noon and approximately 3:00pm.
MEN'S BASKETBALL: Home today at 4:00pm
Also today, the men's basketball team hosts Paul Quinn College at 4:00pm. The game will be aired on SAGU TV by SAGU Sports Live. The pre-game show will begin around 3:45pm (CST).
SAGU is 23-3 while Paul Quinn is 11-14. While the Lions boast of a 14-game win streak and hang their hat on defense, the Tigers are fresh off a 161-138 triumph at the University of the Southwest.
They have scored over 100 in nine games, and are at full-strength after the return of a few key players.
SAGU has given up 80+ points just twice; 92 to LSU-Shreveport and 87 to Texas Wesleyan University - both in Waxahachie.
