SAGU among NAIA scorecard winners
Bostwick, Godding endorse 'Champions' values
Character goals more given more than lip service
WAXAHACHIE, Texas -- Southwestern Assemblies of God University is one of over 80% of member institutions in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), who are from all 23 conferences to make the grade on the Character of Champions scorecard.
The values being expressed, promoted and lived by athletes comprise the “five star” list of standards the NAIA’s estimated 300 schools aspire to represent.
Institutions are measured on a demonstrated commitment to Champions of Character and earned points in character training, conduct in competition, academic focus, and character recognition and character promotion.
Institutions earned points based on exceptional student-athlete grade point averages and by obtaining zero game ejections during competition throughout the course of the academic year.
SAGU’s representative in this esteemed initiative is Head Basketball Coach Donnie Bostwick.
"The Champions of Character program is more than wishful thinking here," he said recently. "It's who we are. It's what we do."
"Serving others and modeling character is at the heart of any successful program," Bostwick added. "We are glad to be a part of the NAIA Champions of Character program.”
He serves under Athletic Director and Head Football Coach, Jesse Godding.
“SAGU understands the importance of being committed to the NAIA Champions of Character program,” Godding said. “This program is a natural extension of the mission aims of SAGU and works to reinforce in our student-athletes the larger picture regarding athletics.”
