WAXAHACHIE, Texas  --  The Southwestern Assemblies of God University men's and women's soccer teams opened play in the Red River Athletic Conference with a pair of home setbacks today.

Northwood University, who entered the men's game with a 1-4 mark, rolled to a smooth 5-2 win. The Knights grabbed a quick 3-0 lead and were never challenged the rest of the way.

It was Northwood's sixth straight win over SAGU, who slipped to 4-4.

The Lady Lions, 1-7, played with great passion and battled their way to a 2-1 lead with less than 20 minutes remaining. Northwood, 4-3, scored a pair of late goals to salvage a 3-2 triumph.

In five previous meetings against the Knights, the Lady Lions were 0-5 and were outscored 24-1. Their improvement is tangible.

Amy Lambdin (Stockton, Cal / Elliot Christian) had both of the team's goals, one in each half, to lead a highly-competitive Purple Pride against a solid Knights team.

A complete report on both games, complete with highlights, statistics and photographs will be posted Thursday night.

SAGU will play host to LSU-Shreveport on Saturday; men at 1:00pm, women at 3pm.
