Baseball Lions host DH today

WAXAHACHIE, Texas  --  The schedule of athletic events and news on the campus of Southwestern Assemblies of God University is chocked full with plenty of activity.

BASEBALL

SAGU (9-11) will play host  to a doubleheader this afternoon against Howard Payne University. The Yellow Jackets (4-7), from Brownwood, Texas, are an NCAA Division III team from the American Southwest Conference.

Game One is scheduled for a 4:00pm first pitch at the Waxahachie Sports Complex.

SAGU will use lefthander Robert Elles (Red Oak, Tx / Tyler JuCo, Red Oak HS) in the first game. Head Coach Jon Shockley has not indicated the starter in the nightcap and may use a committee of hurlers.  )) i)Head co

Southwestern will be in Marshall, Texas this weekend for a three-game series against Wiley College.

SOFTBALL

The Lady Lions (4-6) meet Northwood University (1-1) this afternoon in an afternoon twinbill in nearby Cedar Hill. The first game is scheduled to begin at 1:00pm, with the second game to start approximately at 3:00pm.

The Knights are the only team in the Red River Athletic Conference who are ranked nationally.

SAGU's first home game will be on March 26 against Texas Wesleyan University.

BASKETBALL

After a heartbreaking 112-109 loss in the RRAC semi-finals to #7 ranked Our Lady of the Lake University on Saturday, the Lions regrouped to enter the Central Regional of the National Christian College Athletic Association in Denver.

The team departed for the site of the three-day venue, Lakewood, Colorado, on Monday morning. They are scheduled to practice on the campus of the host school, Colorado Christian University, on Tuesday morning.

SAGU is the #2 seed and will take on Southwestern Christian University (Okla) on Wednesday night, March 7, at 10:00pm (CST).

The game is not available on video, though fans can follow the webcast, a digital play-by-play, on-line. Details for accessing the livestats service will be posted tonight.

A preview and schedule of the eight team field will be posted on Tuesday night.

Results from the RRAC tournament, including the All-Tourney Team and the All-Conference team will also be come in the form of press release articles today and tomorrow. They will be posted at www.sagu.edu/athletics.
