Volleyball, Men's Soccer suffer losses

KISSIMMEE, Florida  --  The Southwestern Assemblies of God University men's soccer team fell to 0-2 at the NCCAA Nationals near Orlando with a heartbreaking loss to Oakland City University, 5-3 on penalty kicks. Regulation ended with the teams knotted in a 2-2 tie. After the two scoreless overtime periods both the Mighty Oaks and the Lions settled the match with kicks from the penalty mark.

SAGU, now 10-9-4, made their first three PK's before missing their fourth try. Oakland made their first four to take a 4-3 lead. Needing to make their fifth for a two-goal lead, the Oaks did, sending the #5 seed into the consolation round for 5th place. OCU is now 12-6-1 while the Lions will play a third game for a shot at both a winning record and 7th place in the field of eight.

In women's volleyball, SAGU lost in straight sets to Colorado Christian University, 25-16, 25-15 and 25-18. The Lions had upset Malone University earlier in Day One of pool play. Coupled with the 3-2 triumph over #4 Malone, Southwestern is 1-1 heading into Day Two, which will also have them playing two teams. They need to win both to guarantee a shot in the Final Four on Saturday.

The Lady Lions had defeated the CCU Cougars, 3-1, in the Central Regional two weeks ago.

SAGU will take on the tournament's #1 seed, California Baptist University, at 9:00am (CST) on Friday. Their final match in pool play is set for Friday at 1:00pm against #5 Grace College (Ind).

A full report on all SAGU games will be posted here by Thursday night.
