John Brown University rolled to a 60-36 victory on Saturday as the Lions fell to 3-3 with their second loss in as many nights at the JBU Classic. Andrea Lugo led with 12-points. The team shot 27% from the field and played without Shaquita Roberts (ankle).
Lady Lions season came to an end this afternoon when they lost in straight sets to Dallas Baptist University, 25-17, 25-9, 25-8. SAGU finishes the year with a 22-15 won-lost record.
Southwestern erupted for four first half goals and went on to knock off the top seeded Central Baptist College (Ark) by a 5-1 margin. Parker Sturgeon had two of the goals, including the first tally of the game. The Lions, now 10-7-4, received an automatic bid to the NCCAA Nationals in two weeks in Orlando, Florida (Kissimmee).
The team was honored at halftime of Saturday night's men's basketball game.
The Lions built a 39-21 lead at the half and went on to post a 68-58 triumph over St. Gregory's University (Ok) on Saturday night. The closest the Swashbucklers came all night was the final margin. SAGU is now 5-0 while the Cavaliers fell to 2-2, with both defeats coming at the hands of the Lions.
Christian Wood-Dvorak led the squad in scoring with 14-points as coach Donnie Bostwick played 10 players between 11 and 26 minutes. Ron Waller and Pud Ross had 15 and 12 points. Fayson Richey, the Sooner Athletic Conference player of the week, was limited to one basket that came in the final minute. He netted four points.
