Weekend Sports Update: October 29
Waxhachie, TX – November 1, 2011 – Southwestern Assemblies of God University’s (SAGU) volleyball beat Mid-American Christian University, 3-1, on Saturday, October 29. The same day, SAGU’s Women’s soccer team played Huston-Tillotson University and won, 1-0.
SAGU (16-12) defeated Mid-American Christian University (5-22) in a best-of-five match, 3-1, winning the first two games, 25-10 and 25-15, losing 17-25 in the third game, and then winning 25-15 in the last game.
Junior Caitlyn Hudson had 13 kills and hit .237, while sophomore setter Taylor Calverley had 40 assists.
The match guaranteed a winning record in the regular season for the seventh successive season under Head Coach Hank Moore.
Friday, November 4, the Lady Lions will host Houston’s University of St. Thomas (17-15) at 6 p.m. The match will determine who finishes in fourth place in the Red River Athletic Conference. The two are tied with 4-4 conference marks. Saturday, November 5, SAGU will play against The University of the Southwest (New Mexico) at 1 p.m. Both games will be live-streamed at www.sagu.tv.
SAGU (3-13, 1-8 RRAC) won against Huston-Tillotson University, 1-0, at Lions Pride Park. Junior Natalie Pena scored the winning goal in 47th minute on an assist from freshman Amy Lambdin. Freshman goal-keeper Haley Shingleton was credited with three saves. The Lady Lions dominated play, evidenced by a 19-4 edge in shots.
SAGU paid tribute to seniors Daniela Garcia, Kendall Murders and Victoria Munoz during a pre-game ceremony.
