Weekend Results for SAGU

The Southwestern Assemblies of God University athletic family completed a 3-1 weekend on Saturday evening. The results saw the continued rise of Lion teams, both men and women.

Check back here later tonight for full reports on both soccer matches and overnight for a recap of the Lions football game in Kansas.

The Lady Lions swept Bacone College on Friday, 3-0. SAGU won 25-22, then 26-24 and finally by a 25-22 verdict to improve their record to 8-8 in all games and 1-1 in the RRAC.

Women’s Soccer

Southwestern came up short on the road to LSU-Shreveport, 4-0. The Pilots scored two goals in each half. SAGU fell to 2-7 overall and 0-2 in league play.

Five different receivers catch TD passes and the Lions defense scores for the fourth straight game as the Lions roared to a 46-2 triumph over Haskell University in Lawrence, Ks. Southwestern is 3-1, their best-ever start, and will host Southern Nazarene, 4-0, next Saturday at 6pm.

Men’s Soccer

A major win for SAGU this afternoon by the Cat kickers as they thumped LSU-Shreveport by a 2-1 score. Alex Vazquez and Danny Martinez each scored the SAGU. Down 1-0, Martinez scored in the first half on an assist from Vazquez.

Then, in the 48th minute, Vazquez was fouled in the box area, and converted the resulting penalty kick for a 2-1 lead that the team successfully defended in a hard-fought contest. SAGU is now 3-4-2 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
