Lions (5-4) play host to Bacone College (7-3)

Seven Seniors will be honored at the game

golson-runs-upfield-baconeWAXAHACHIE, Texas  --  This evening will close the college football season for Southwestern Assemblies of God University. The Lions will put their three-game winning streak on the line when they entertain No. 25 ranked Bacone College at Lumpkins Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6:00pm (CST).

SAGU is 5-4 overall and a win would be the team's first foray north of .500 in a season. The team has produced three four-win seasons in the past five years, so five victories is their most successful campaign yet.

The game will pit the Central States Football League's two highest scoring teams in what could be an entertaining swan song. SAGU and BC are also the leading teams in total offense.

Bacone is 7-3 and hope to bounce back after a heartbreaking 39-37 home loss to No. 24 last Saturday.

The Lions rolled past Texas College, 38-15, after building a 38-0 lead through three quarters.

Fans can watch the Lions and Warriors on-line in HD. SAGU Sports Live is broadcasting the game - at no expense to viewers - which will start at approximately at 5:45pm with the pre-game show. Click:  www.sagu.edu/tv

There will be no available LiveStats version of the game.

A detailed review of the game, along with statistics and action photos, will be posted on Sunday.

The Lions lead the NAIA's CSFL in rushing. They average 192 yards a game and 4.4 yards per carry.

Senior QB Reid Golson will set the school career rushing record with 40 yards against the Warriors. Last week he broke the SAGU record for total offense.

Golson has amassed 675 yards on the ground. The primary running backs are Troy Griffin (Houston, Tx / Texas A&M Commerce)  and James Hopkins (Ferris, Tx / Ferris HS, NW Okla State).. They have 483 and 307 yards, respectively, with Griffin scoring 8 TD's.

SAGU's passing attack is last in the league, gaining 156 yards per game.

Bacone has the NAIA's sixth best passing game, gaining 315 yards per outing. Senior QB Kyle Kuban (kyoo-ben) has been lighting up the skies with an aerial assault that has three receivers with 32 or more catches.

The Lions leading receivers are Jeremy McDonald (San Antonio, Tx / Cornerstone Christian) and Dylan Moore (Denton, Tx / Guyer HS). The duo has 26 and 23 receptions, respectively.

Defensively, SAGU has allowed the second lowest number of points, while Bacone is third.

In surrendering yards, the teams are 1-2 in stats. Bacone has given up 342 yards per game (31 TDs) while SAGU is second at 368 per contest. The Lions have permitted 31 TD's.

The focal point of the game will likely be between Bacone's passing attack and SAGU secondary, which rates better than the others in the league.

Jeremiah Maat (Slidell, La / Slidell HS) a sophomore linebacker, leads the defense in tackles.

The team's seven seniors will be honored in a special ceremony by Head Coach and Athletic Director, Jesse Godding. In recent seasons the event has taken place during halftime by Coach Godding.

The cast includes;

DE  Ike Caston (Dallas, Tx / A+ Academy HS )

LB  Kendal Evers (Danbury, Tx / Danbury HS )

PK  James Gish (Waxahachie, Tx / Waxahachie HS )

QB  Reid Golson (Grandview, Tx / Grandview, Howard Payne  Univ)

QB  Josh Harris (Victorville, Cal / Victor Valley Christian HS )
