WISD Appreciation Day on Saturday

Lumpkins Stadium: SAGU vs Texas College, 2pm

Students, Staff and Families invited to take in Lions football

WAXAHACHIE, Texas  --  The final day of the college football regular season for two of Texas’ three NAIA teams can be enjoyed for free by those in the Waxahachie Independent School District this Saturday.

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), with around 300 member institutions across America, wraps-up the season on November 10.

Southwestern Assemblies of God University, based here in Waxahachie, will play host to Texas College, of Tyler, at 2:00pm (CST) on Saturday.

In recognition of the thousands of students, staff and families who make up the WISD community, SAGU is providing free admission to the football game, which is played at the same location that so many local schools enjoy; 10,000 seat Lumpkins Stadium.

Free passes have already been mailed to homes throughout the city.

The WISD Appreciation Day includes all Waxahachie residents.

SAGU wishes to invite the WISD family to take in a family-friendly afternoon of college football!

The SAGU “Lions” and Texas College “Steers” have split their past four meetings. The teams play a schedule that is comprised of opponents from the NAIA as well as NCAA Division II and III.

SAGU, under veteran Head Coach Jesse Godding, plays an exciting version of the spread-option offense. Junior quarterback Reid Golson (Grandview, Tx / Howard Payne Univ., Grandview HS) ranks #14 in the nation in total offense.

Golson's 25-yard touchdown run in overtime, plus the extra-point kick by James Gish (Waxahachie, Tx / Waxahachie HS), gave the Lions a 28-27 triumph a week ago against Oklahoma Panhandle State University.

The game will also be aired on the internet on SAGU TV at no expense to viewers. Check-out the SAGU website and click on “Watch SAGU TV” and then locate the Sports menu for the broadcast. The pre-game show begins at 1:45pm.

Southwestern Assemblies of God University, with over 2,000 students, remains the only college in the NAIA to livestream their games in high definition.

A preview of the game will be posted on-line, Friday, at www.sagu.edu/athletics.
