Football Schedule Announced
Lions have six home games
Homecoming is set for October 13
WAXAHACHIE, Texas -- The Southwestern Assemblies of God University football team has announced their 2012 schedule, and it includes six home dates according to the SAGU Athletic Department.
The Lions, who are members in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA Division I) and the Central States Football League, posted a 4-6 mark last fall under veteran Head Coach and Athletic Director Jesse Godding.
Southwestern’s homecoming game is on October 13. The Lions will meet Haskell University (Kan) at Lumpkins Stadium with a 2:00pm (CST) kickoff planned.
The SAGU Sports Network will broadcast all six home games in HD, streaming the highest quality internet production in the NAIA. Kickoff times for all but one contest have been determined.
The team has four games in September, three of them in Waxahachie. Bethany College (Kan) visits on Labor Day weekend. The Swedes, 8-3 in 2011, edged the Lions, 29-21, in last year’s road opener.
Two more games in October will be at Lumpkins, which has seating for 10,000. The stadium has artificial turf and is considered one of the state’s finest playing sites.
Southwestern will meet Texas College at home on November 10. It will be the season finale as well as Senior Day.
Plans will be announced later about special promotional events for home dates.
The CSFL had two teams, Northwest Oklahoma State University (4-6) and Southern Nazarene University (9-3), leave to join the NCAA’s Division II.
Entering the league is Wayland Baptist University, who will play their inaugural season in football this September. SAGU will be their homecoming opponent, October 20, in Plainview, which is 50 miles north of Lubbock.
Recruiting, coaching staff news and updates on summer camp, which begins in August, will be posted on-line at www.sagu.edu/athletics.
