CSFL Defensive Player of the Week: SAGU's Hudgins

All-American Linebacker Honored Again

ALVA, Oklahoma -- Senior inside linebacker Jared Hudgins (Midland, Tx / Midland Christian) was chosen as the Defensive Player of the Week in the Central States Football League for his performance on Saturday in Southwestern Assemblies 38-24 win over Trinity Bible College.

The 6-foot-2, 225 pound All-American racked up 10 tackles in the come from behind victory. He also had 2.5 tackles for losses, one quarterback sack and an interception. Hudgins, who led the nation in tackles in the NAIA last fall (14.6 per game), was credited for a pass broken-up as well.

Hudgins is currently #12 in the NAIA in tackles per game, making 10.7 stops per contest.

Joey Vinson (Patterson, La / Patterson HS), the Lions free safety, is #4 in the country in interceptions per game (1.0), as he now has three for the season. In the TBC game he had a fourth pick negated due to a penalty against SAGU. The 6-foot, 200-pounder is a junior.

Southwestern Assemblies of God University also had freshman halfback Eddie Bailey, Jr. (Milwaukee, Wisc / John Jay HS) nominated for Offensive Player of the Week. He rushed for 191 yards on only 20 carries. He scored three TD's and had a fourth called back due to a penalty. The CSFL honor instead went to QB Brady Wardlaw, of Southern Nazarene University, SAGU's next opponent.

Wardlaw completed 29 of 43 passes for 316 yards and a new school record six TD passes. The Crimson Storm defeated Bethany College (Kansas) 42-18.

SAGU has a bye this week. They travel to Bethany, Oklahoma on October 2 to play Southern Nazarene. The kickoff is set for 2:00pm.
