Senior QB earns Player of the Week honors

WAXAHACHIE, Texas  --  Southwestern Assemblies of God University quarterback, Jason Rice (Katy, Tx / Katy Faith West HS), was named the Offensive Player of the Week in the Central States Football League for his effort last week in a 35-13 win over Austin College.

His performance nominated him as one of the top players in the nation by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).

Rice was chosen the National Player of the Week by the National Christian College Athletic Association. Six others made the list as nominees for the national award.

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound QB completed 18 of 26 passes for 238 yards and a pair of touchdowns. His TD throws covered 50 and 31 yards to junior wideout Micah Burditt (Midland, Tx / Midland Lee HS). Rice did not throw an interception.

Rice (shown above passing behind the protection of Peter Akorikan) also ran 15 times for 63 yards. He hit on his first 13 throws.

NCCAA Ratings have Lions tied at the top

A possible destination for the Lions at the end of the regular season is the NCCAA's Victory Bowl on November 19. The top two teams from their field of football-playing member schools will meet to conclude the season.

Currently, six teams are tied with 2-1 won-lost records, led by Southwestern Assemblies. Campbellsville University (Ky), Malone University (Oh), Trinity Bible College (N. Dak), Azusa Pacific University (Cal) and North Greenville University (SoCar) are all 2-1.
