Change in Venue ends Lions Season
NCCAA Baseball Regional moves to Oklahoma
WAXAHACHIE, Texas -- The National Christian College Athletic Association announced the 2011 Central Regional baseball tournament, originally scheduled for May 12-14 at the Waxahachie Sports Complex, is changing locations.
Southwestern Assemblies of God University, as the tourney host, would automatically gain entry. A leadership change in the region and the fact that most of the teams who have committed to participate are from north of Texas, prompting the move to a new locale more conveniently positioned.
Colorado Christian University, in Denver (Lakewood, Co), and Oklahoma Wesleyan University, from Bartlesville, Ok, are likely to land the event. A decision is imminent.
As a non-tourney host, SAGU’s winning percentage is not high enough to obtain a bid. The Lions, who dropped two of three games over the weekend to Texas College, conclude their 2011 campaign with an 11-31 won-lost record. They were 8-27 last season.
It has not been a particularly strong season across the region, which has members from Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska and Colorado. The team that advances as the Central champ will compete for the NCCAA National Championship during May 18-21 near Cincinnati, Ohio.
The field for the event had five entrants as of Monday, April 25. Central Baptist College is ranked #13 in the NCCAA. Colorado Christian University is a member of the NCAA’s Division II.
