JV Baseball unit to play Cedar Valley

Tuesday tilt replaces non-conference game

Weston Lippe to get pitching start for SAGU Lions

WAXAHACHIE, Texas -- The Southwestern Assemblies of God University baseball team announced three schedule changes that will affect both the varsity and junior varsity squads.

Head Coach Greg Hayes, who's Lions have won three of their last four games, will not be playing Northwood University on Tuesday in Cedar Hill. The game against the Knights (24-8, 13-2 in RRAC), who were ranked #26 in the nation in the NAIA pre-season Coaches Poll, would've been a non-conference game, as both SAGU and NU had already played three times this year.

Replacing the game will be a nine inning contest in Lancaster between the host Cedar Valley College and the Lions jayvee team. The coaching staff utilizes these games to provide additional playing time for younger players and to develop other members on the varsity.

More than lip service

The game begins at 2:00pm. Freshman Weston Lippe (Huntsville, Tx / Alpha-Omega HS) was scheduled to get his first collegiate start against Northwood, instead, will be on the bump against CVC. Chris Stanley (Harker Heights, Tx / Ellison HS), who had a brief stint on the mound against Jarvis Christian College over the weekend, will follow Lippe (pronounced LIP-ee).

Cedar Valley, with over 6,000 students enrolled, began in Cedar Hill before relocating in nearby Lancaster. Their mascot is the Suns.

Southwestern to play in new stadium next week

Also, the Lions' March 29 game against Arlington Baptist College is now going to take place at QuikTrip Park in Grand Prairie instead of the Waxahachie Sports Complex. The schedule first pitch time is 2:00pm.

The stadium, with seating for 5,400 fans, opened in May of 2008. The QTP is named after the Tulsa-based chain of convenience stores. It is primarily used as the home of the minor league Grand Prairie Air Hogs team, who play in the American Association.

SAGU is Okie Bound

The Southwestern varsity will travel to Muskogee, Oklahoma for a three-game set against Bacone College this weekend. The first game is on Friday at 2:00pm, with a noon doubleheader slated for Saturday. It is a 247 jaunt from Waxahachie to Muskogee, which is 45 miles southeast from Tulsa.
