Cross, Burt start doubleheader today vs Ecclesia
Lions host Royals at 4:00pm at the Wax. Sports Complex
WAXAHACHIE, Texas -- Southwestern Assemblies of God University plays host to a red-hot Ecclesia College in a Tuesday afternoon doubleheader at the Waxahachie Sports Complex.
Game One is set to begin with a 4:00pm first pitch. The second game will start approximately twenty minutes after the first.
Temperature at game time should be 72 with a sunny sky. Twenty-two mph winds at 4pm should decrease to 3 mph by eight o’clock with a zero percent chance of rain.
The Lions are 17-20 after taking two of three from St. Gregory’s University over the weekend.
Ecclesia (ECK-less-SEE-ya), riding an 11-game winning streak, is 22-16. The Royals outscored their opponents 108-11, including eight shutouts during that stretch of play.
Head Coach Derrion Hardie led the Royals to a 27-22 mark last spring, including a 3-1 series win over SAGU in Springdale (north of Little Rock), Arkansas.
SAGU Head Coach Sam Blackmon has indicated that Jeremy Cross (Americus, Ga / Harker Heights HS, Univ. of Dallas ) and Tucker Burt (North Richland Hills, Tx / Westlake Academy ) will start the two games.
Cross (2-3 record) has struggled of late. Tuesday will be his eighth start. The left-hander has two complete games.
The 5’10 senior went the distance in an 8-2 win at Huston-Tillotson University as well as a three-hitter during a 3-2 triumph at Texas Wesleyan University on March 6.
Burt, a tough, hard-throwing, right-handed freshman (3-4 record), is second on the team in strike outs with 23 in 35 innings pitched. At 6’5, he can bring it.
It will be his team-leading twelfth appearance on the mound and his sixth starting assignment.
In last year’s series in the Ozarks, the Lions were outscored 34-28 and outhit 39-31. Two areas that led to losses were walking 15 Royals and committing 14 errors. EC made just four.
SAGU took the first game, 11-9, and then dropped the second, 10-8. The following day the Royals won, 4-3, and overcame a 5-0 deficit in an 11-6 victory in the last game.
The Lions have a critical series this weekend when they play three games at No. 10 ranked Oklahoma City University.
The Stars are 25-11 and 13-5 in the Sooner Athletic Conference. OKC is 5-5 in their last ten outings.
Live stream video and Live Stats will be available from Jim Wade Stadium.
Note: Ecclesia shares the same logo and mascot with Florida’s Warner Southern College.
