Recruiting class includes Randall HS standout

hernandez-in-actionWAXAHACHIE, Texas  --  The new recruiting baseball class for Southwestern Assemblies of God University added Brandon Hernandez prior to the end of the summer.

Head Coach Sam Blackmon has announced that Hernandez has signed a Letter of Intent to enroll at SAGU as a student-athlete. He is an experienced second baseman, with skills that translate well at other infield positions.

Hernandez was born and raised in Amarillo, Texas. He played for Head Coach Cory Hamilton at Class 4A Randall High School, where he twice earned All-District honors.

During two seasons the Raiders qualified for the state playoffs, each time advancing to the third round.

Last season Randall tied Amarillo HS for the District 3 championship with a 12-3 record. The silver and black Raiders racked up a 22-10 mark.

As a cog in the wheel of the Randall attack, Hernandez batted in the two-hole in his junior and senior campaigns. The 5-foot-8 middle infielder toted a .349 bat.

He also played for two club teams; the West Texas Outlaws and the Throwbacks, for coaches Brandt Guyer and Stephen Hernandez, his father.

At the Christian Life Center in Amarillo, he was involved on the leadership team in the church’s ministry to children.

At SAGU he plans to major in Criminal Justice. His sister Brittney (18) has also enrolled and is a member of this year’s Cheer Team. Their parents are Stephen and Judy Hernandez.

SAGU will open their fall camp in mid-September. Plans include an alumni game as well as a weeklong World Series of intrasquad games.

The team schedule will be released later this fall.

The Lions, 14-34 last season, are dual members in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA).

This year they begin their first season in the Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC), considered one of, if not the premier league in the NAIA.
