Baseball Lions begin conference season
Three-game series vs. Jarvis this weekend
Killebrew, Pisors will start the first two games
WAXAHACHIE, Texas -- The young baseball team from Southwestern Assemblies of God University will enter the long grind of league games in the Red River Athletic Conference.
Friday and Saturday they play a three-game set in East Texas against Jarvis Christian College.
The teams will play one game on Friday at 1:00pm, and then tangle at noon on Saturday in a doubleheader.
SAGU has begun the season with a 9-9 record while showing improvement in several areas, primarily pitching The test of that progress, however, will be graded during their 27-game RRAC season.
Jarvis, who did not field a team in the Red River a year ago, is back. The Bulldogs are 7-6.
SAGU Head Coach Jon Shockley announced during practice this week that Hayden Killebrew and Jared Pisors, a freshman duo from nearby Red Oak High School, will start games one and two. They are both right-handers.
A decision on who will get the nod in the series finale was not determined.
A report on the entire series will be posted on Sunday.
When the teams last met, two seasons ago, the Lions came away with a 2-1 series win. SAGU won the first and third games, 13-3 and 15-11. They lost the middle contest in a 10-7 decision.
In 2010 the Lions took the opener, 10-9, and then dropped three in a row; 13-8, 8-7 and 11-8.

The Lions will meet Arlington Baptist College next Tuesday, February 26, in a 2:00pm twinbill.
Fans are encouraged to catch the action at Quick Trip Park, the minor league ballpark for the Grand Prairie “Air Hogs.”
SAGU will return for an 11-game homestand against Northwood University (8-5), Wiley College (1-7), Schreiner University (5-6) and Texas College (3-10).
