Lions rout DCC, 15-4; split twinbill
Three-game homestand this weekend
McKINNEY, Texas -- After a disappointing 5-4 loss in the opener, the Southwestern Assemblies of God University baseball erupted for a 15-4 rout of Dallas Christian College on Tuesday afternoon.
The doubleheader split snapped the Lions’ losing streak at seven games and improved their won-lost record to 12-23. The Crusaders, 11-24, took the first game by scoring the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
A detailed review of Tuesday’s DH against Dallas Christian will be posted on Wednesday.
SAGU will host their final home games of the season this Friday and Saturday, April 13-14. The University of the Southwest (15-25 record), from Hobbs, New Mexico, will play a doubleheader at 4:00pm on Friday. The Lions and Mustangs are set for a noon solo contest the following day.
A ceremony to honor the team’s nine seniors will take place on Saturday prior to the first pitch. The Lions' rotation has yet to be announced.
SAGU still hopes to make-up two rained out series; a 3-game home set against Huston-Tillotson University (4-25) and a twinbill at LeTourneau University (13-18) in Longview.
Southwestern will play a double-dip at Arlington Baptist College on Tuesday, April 17, and travel to Tyler for three against Texas College (19-20-1 record), April 20-21. The games against ABC will take place at Quik-Trip Park, the home for the Grand Prairie Air Hogs minor league baseball team.
A berth in the Central Regional tournament (Denver, May 3-5) of the National Christian College Athletic Association remains a post-season possibility for SAGU. They must finish the season with a .400 winning percentage in order to qualify. They are currently at .343.
